On the whole, a noble, well-intentioned message narrated in an entertaining format in a Salman Khan movie, who, as we all know by now, is the much endeared hero of the masses, makes JAI HO a sure-shot winner. In fact, it won't be wrong to state that JAI HO easily ranks amongst Salman's better films. This one has the potential to emerge a Blockbuster at the box-office.

Jai Ho'- A remake of Telugu film 'Stalin' (inspired by Hollywood film 'Pay It Forward') resonates with the current mood of the country. Sparking an optimistic hope of a Utopian world. Sohail presents our 'Hero of the Masses' fabulously - with all Salmanisms perfectly in place. The premise pompously alerts us of cliches and trappings of a commercial masala fare. The screenplay is not as inspiring as the noble message, the story cuts into too many episodes and the underlying idea is repetitive.

Jai Ho, directed by brother Sohail Khan, has an honourable premise (based on Chiranjeevi’s Telugu super-hit Stalin) but doesn’t hold up for want of deft filmmaking and sleek aesthetics. What could have been a relevant crowd-pleaser with a little effort from Sohail Khan and his writers is mostly a tedious and overcrowded drivel that shamelessly depends on Salman’s strapping charisma to tide them over.

There is absolutely nothing uncommon about Jai Ho. It is strictly hackneyed fare about a wronged man who goes berserk in his mission to rid his own life – and that of the nation – of a very powerful tormentor. Jai Ho is a tale that is about as exciting – and just as empty – as the spiel of a politician going to the polls. Eminently avoidable unless you are a diehard Salman Khan fan.

`Jai Ho’ could have been a pure and simple `Dabangg 3’. It’s not. It’s not even a no-holds-barred South remake either, despite its quarts of spurting blood and broken bones). Jai’s ‘aam aadmi’ ( he says the phrase, and the audience erupts, rightfully, in this age of ascendant mango people ) catches traction only a moment. In the rest, he goes back to snarling and kicking and scowling.

Jai Ho is a treat for Salman fans and this time there is some bonus, Bhai is not just fighting, he is also giving a good message.  A Salman Khan film is an amusement ride, don't take it too seriously! Watch it with his fans and you will know what I mean!

Unlike Salman’s previous films, ‘Jai Ho’ isn’t a typical masala movie. The dialogues are simple and connect well with the audiences. The action sequences have been shot well and the cinematography is clean and impressive. Kudos to the Khan brothers for pulling off a film like ‘Jai Ho’.

Finally, the film fails to ennoble itself beyond what the contours of the script holds for it. Lacking the quirky fun of Dabangg or Ek Tha Tiger, Jai Ho simply furthers Salman’s Being Human status. However, it still scores over all of Salman’s works put together for its ability to translate the common man’s simmering anger into a Utopian and satisfying climax. A definite not-miss!

Dedh Ishqiya

Overall Rating: 4/5

Rohit Khilnani, India Today:  3.5/5
A pat on the back for Abhishek Chaubey who puts a tough film together and keeps us engrossed throughout. Music by Vishal Bhardwaj is not great here but his contribution in writing the dialogues for this film is the best thing to happen to Dedh Ishqiya.

Watch it, you won't be disappointed!

Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV:  4/5
Notwithstanding the title, there are no half measures in Dedh Ishqiya
From dilkashi to junoon, the start and end point respectively of Khalujaan’s take on the seven stages of love, the film has them both and everything in between and beyond.

Dedh Ishqiya is a must watch

Raja Sen, Rediff:  5/5
It's a sequel that leaves even a highly original first-part far behind.
And, for a film so accessible, it’s armed with the most cunning, most delicious twist. It’s terrific -- and a half.

Dedhriffic, then

First PostIn short, Dedh Ishqiya is smarter, funnier, richer and way more gorgeous than its predecessor. If you're a fan of clever lines with terrific actors, great writing, masterful direction and Urdu poetry, Dedh Ishqiya hits your sweet spot. If you don’t really give a damn about any of this and just want a fun time at the movies, Dedh Ishqiya is perhaps the most hilarious thriller Bollywood has produced

Meena Iyer , Times of India : 3.5/5
Vishal Bharadwaj's dialogue keeps you in splits. The free usage of words like sex and chu**yapaa tickle the funny bone. Naseer is back in super-form after straying in outings like Jackpot. Ditto Arshad. Madhuri looks gorgeous but the dhak-dhak girl (now woman) falls short on the oomph meter, as compared to Vidya Balan in IshqiyaHuma Qureshi is interesting.

Taran Adarsh Site:Bollywood Hungama 4/5
While ISHQIYA was earthy and rustic, one gets to witness an alternate universe in DEDH ISHQIYA. There are layers to the story that baffle you. This time, it's even more dicey and perilous. On the whole, DEDH ISHQIYA is a worthy follow up to the widely admired ISHQIYA. Powerful writing, superb direction and outstanding performances make DEDH ISHQIYA a must watch. Just don't miss it!

Daily Bhaskar Site:Dainik Bhaskar : 3.5/5
The film rides on a good story, great acting performances, brilliant screenplay, interesting dialogues and a twist, which will leave you awestruck. If Ishqiya was rustic, Dedh Ishqiya is royal. Just like the prequel Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad have given an outstanding performance. Dedh Ishqiya is fractionally better than its prequel. For all the cinema lovers, who prefer acting and story over masala, it’s time to book your seats.
